The 2022 National Track and Field Tour (NTF Tour) completed the 4th stop at the Montreal Classic last Sunday as the build up of the track season moves west once more. The creation of this international opportunity for Canadians to prepare for selection to our team to the World Championships in Eugene, OR, Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK and U20 World Championhips in Cali, Colombia is yielding great results. This "Made In Canada" concept counters the previous pattern where our developing athletes, starved for stimulating competition where forced to search south of the border.
Ushereoritse (Dusho) ITSEKIRI of Nigeria continues to dominate th NTF Tour as he powered to another 100m victory in Montreal with 10.09 (0.9) only 0.07 seconds of his personal best set in Rabat, Morocco in 2019. This 2021 Olympian is now a graduate student at the University of Regina and the 2022 USPORT 60m Champion is gaining momentum in the NTF Tour. Dusho, his preferred nick name seems a definite threat to the Jerome Classic meet record of 9.99 set by Canada's Donovan Bailey in 1997.
Thomas FAFARD of Quebec City and Eric LUTZ of Calgary also come from a USPORT background and will be headed to the Jerome Classic on June 14th. In Montreal Thomas and Eric battled with Aaron AHL of Simon Fraser University in an action filled 1500m to bump up into the NTF Tour top ten.
